A famous philosopher once said "Know Thyself". I'm going to put my toe into the philosophizer pool right about now and expand that to "Know Thyself and Thy Children". A sound base in this simple concept would have saved me a great deal of pain. Allow me to expand. A friend of the family was taking her children to http://www.islandrock.net , a cool indoor climbing space with kids programs. The gym is laid out very nicely and I was personally excited to get in some climbing and exercise. My six year old son was excited as well as he ran around the room with his friend checking out all the climbing walls. We got all paid up and outfitted with gear and headed over to the lesson...and right about here is where it all goes wrong. My son gets about 10 feet off the ground and COMPLETELY freaks out. Result...he is inconsolable and we had to leave right away. Now...truth be told, my son is a little bit of a scaredy cat and fast motions (along with heights as I learned the hard way) make him extremely nervous. The gym looked fantastic and I completely recommend it as an indoor exercise activity...IF and only if your child can handle it. For what its worth my son's friend had a fantastic time (he's kind of a little go getter). So go check it out...but make sure that your kids can handle heights because those walls go WAY up there.
